TIANJIN /China/, September 10 /ITAR-TASS/. International stability should be more important than immediate internal interests of separate countries, Russian Vice-Premier Arkady Dvorkovich said at the Annual Summit of New Champions-2014 on Wednesday.

“Internal political interests prevail in a contemporary world. We can see that in the American and European governments. Unfortunately, such an approach is creating a negative environment for world politics and prospects for reaching international accord,” Dvorkovich said. According to him, such an approach could lead to serious miscalculations.

“The US actions in the Middle East have caused chaos in Egypt, Libya and Syria. This is a bad way to promote democracy and create a favourable economic environment in the region,” Dvorkovich said adding that he considered the current Western sanctions against Russia to be counterproductive. “It is unclear what results they may have,” the vice-premier said.

“We hope that politicians will be more responsible and will search for ways of creating a stable world community. Everybody should realize that it is impossible to achieve progress in developing one’s own country without favourable external environment,” Dvorkovich said.

He added that in the face of Western economic sanctions, it was very important for Russia to strengthen cooperation with the BRICS group of countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa).

“We will boost cooperation with the BRICS countries in the first place as well as with any other countries that do not impose senseless sanctions against Russia. Naturally, BRICS is a clear priority,” Dvorkovich said.

“The sanctions are causing damage not only to the Russian but also European economy,” Dvorkovich told a meeting devoted to developing markets.

“They are bringing new challenges. Therefore, Russia needs new reliable partners to maintain its sustainable economic growth and to stop the conflict raging on its borders,” the Russian vice-premier said.

Dvorkovich explained that the developing markets had undergone considerable changes in recent years.

“Today, their economic growth depends not so much on cooperation with developed countries but on how these markets interact among themselves,” Dvorkovich said.

The Annual Summit of New Champions - 2014 which is often dubbed as “the summer Davos” opened in Tianjin, a mega city in northern China, on Wednesday. The international forum is being attended by the prime ministers and government members of China, Serbia, Denmark, Nigeria, Egypt, Azerbaijan, Lithuania and other countries. Besides, the forum has drawn the attention of the world business community, including the heads of major international corporations such as Google, Microsoft, Dow Chemical, Audi, HSBC, etc.
