Crimeans to be able to vote on three passports in elections on September 14

SIMFEROPOL, September 08. /ITAR-TASS/. Crimeans will be able to use Russian, Ukrainian and even Soviet passports to vote in parliamentary elections on the peninsula on September 14, Mikhail Malyshev, the head of the Crimean election committee, told a roundtable meeting on Monday.
"The holders of all the three passports - a Russian, a Ukrainian and the Soviet one, if anyone has preserved it, will be eligible to vote. Registration in Crimea will be the main criteria,” Malyshev said.
He added that people who would not find themselves in the list of voters would have to write an application if they wanted to use their right to vote.
“No one will have to go to court,” the election committee head said.
Malyshev explained that the Federal Migration Service had submitted a list of 2,500 eligible voters who had officially applied for giving up the Russian citizenship.
"The district committees will check the lists and exclude the aforesaid people from voter lists,” Malyshev stressed.
He added that the election committee had been notified that the Federal Migration Service in Crimea had extended its working hours till 21:00 for the period of elections on September 8-14. People will be able to check whether their surnames have been included the list of voters both at polling stations and via the Internet.
Elections to the Crimean State Council (parliament) will take place in Crimea on September 14. The voters will have to elect 75 deputies, of which 50 are to be elected on party lists and 25 in majoritarian constituencies. Twelve political parties which have 750 registered candidates in their party lists will take place in the elections. About 160 candidates will run for 25 seats in parliament in majoritarian constituencies.
Elections to local representative power bodies will take place in Crimea the same day on September 14.
