Lavrov acquaints OSCE PA chairman with presidential plan for settling Ukrainian conflict

MOSCOW, September 04. /ITAR-TASS/. Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov on Thursday received Ilkka Kanerva, Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organizations for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and acquainted him in detail with the contents of the plan suggested by Russia's President for settilng the intra-Ukrainian conflict. President Vladimir Putin set out the plan on Wednesday, Septmber 3, Russia's Foreign Ministry official said.

Kanerva is currently in Moscow on a working visit at the invitation of Sergey Naryshkin, Speaker of the State Duma lower house of the Russian parliament. It was emphasized during the Lavrov-Kanerva meeting that "a comprehensive implementation of the plan would make it possible to put a stop to bloodshed in Ukraine's south-east and set about implementing urgent measures to restore the ruined infrastructure of Donbass and give humanitarian aid to the suffering population," the Ministry official said.

During the conversation between Russia's Foreign Minister and the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Chairman, "there was also a detailed exchange of views on matters regarding the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly activities and on its possible contribution to a political settlement of the intra-Ukraine crisis," the Ministry official pointed out.

"The Assembly's contribution to advancing the 'Helsiniki plus 40' process was discussed as well. The Russian side pointed out interest in enhancing the role of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly as an important parliamentar platform for the consideration of the modt important matters aimed at strengthening European security and cooperation," the Ministry official added.
