Reports on South Ossetia’s joining Russia-Abkhazia treaty groundless — Foreign Ministry
“As of today South Ossetia is not discussing the signing of the tripartite treaty,” the ministry says
TSKHINVAL, September 03. /ITAR-TASS/. South Ossetia’s Foreign Ministry on Wednesday called reports on the republic’s possible joining a treaty between Russia and Abkhazia groundless.
“Strengthening of friendly relations with the Republic of Abkhazia is the priority of South Ossetia’s political activity. But certain media reports saying South Ossetia and Abkhazia are holding talks on the possible joining of the Russia-Abkhazia treaty are groundless,” the ministry said.
“As of today South Ossetia is not discussing the signing of the tripartite treaty,” the ministry said.
The rapprochement with Russia and integration between the two countries are key tasks of South Ossetia’s foreign policy. “As of today over 70 international agreements have been signed. Other deals are being prepared. The countries are holding talks to conclude a new treaty of friendship and cooperation,” the ministry said.
