Putin hopes Contact Group on Ukraine will reach final agreements on settlement plan September 5

MOSCOW, September 03./ITAR-TASS/.Russian President Vladimir Putin said he and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko discussed by phone Wednesday a plan to settle the situation in Ukraine.

Putin said the plan contained seven items.

“In order to stop bloodshed and stabilize the situation in the southeast of Ukraine, I believe the conflicting sides should immediately agree and carry out the following actions in coordination,” he said.

First, the Russian leader said, “active offensive operations of armed formations of southeastern Ukrainian militiamen should be stopped on the Donetsk and Luhansk directions.

Putin says use of aviation against civilians in Ukraine’s southeast should be stopped.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday he hoped that the Contact Group on Ukraine would reach final agreements on the settlement plan.

“I believe that the Kiev authorities and southeastern Ukraine will reach final agreements [on the settlement of the situation] at the upcoming meeting of the Contact Group on Ukraine on September 5,” Putin said.

“I hope that the Ukrainian leaders will support nascent progress in bilateral relations,” Putin said.

“I hope that Ukraine will take an active part in the Contact Group meeting for final and comprehensive settlement in southeastern Ukraine to meet the legal rights of people who live there,” he said.

Militants must terminate military operations in Donetsk and Luhansk, Ukrainian armed forces must be pulled out far enough to rule out shellings of cities and villages, Russian president added.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has called on the Ukrainian authorities for opening humanitarian corridors to motor vehicles for delivering humanitarian cargoes to the east of Ukraine.

He said it was one of the items of his peace plan. Also, Putin mentioned the opportunity to dispatch repair teams for restoring the ruined facilities of social and life-support infrastructures.
