PARIS, September 02. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia’s State Duma (lower house) Speaker Sergei Naryshkin said on Tuesday he was ready to take the floor at the PACE plenary session in October or January.

“I’m ready to speak at the PACE session in October or January to state the position of Russian parliamentarians on the [Ukrainian] conflict,” he said after a meeting with PACE President Anne Brasseur.

Naryshkin called for “convening an international parliamentary conference to discuss procedures and norms of cooperation between parliamentary structures, as well as common issues such as relationship between morale, politics and law”.

He also “proposed to work out the PACE position on such instruments as political and economic pressure, and sanctions that had not been supported by the UN”.

Naryshkin “initiated discussions on creating a parliamentary commission for investigating crimes in the Council of Europe member-countries”. He cited as an example “the May 2 events in Odessa when several dozens of civilians were burnt alive”.

Naryshkin said he was satisfied with the format of the meeting. He called for organising the next meeting in Moscow.

“We stressed that we valued the Parliamentary Assembly as a leading democratic platform for parliamentary discussions on issues that our continent arouses concern,” he said.
