MOSCOW, August 27. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia’s Red Cross will accompany a second relief aid convoy to Ukraine if the government decides to send the cargo, spokeswoman Tatyana Klenitskaya said on Wednesday.

The agreement was reached at a meeting between the organization’s chair Raisa Lukutsova, the head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) regional delegation in Russia, Belarus and Moldova, Pascal Cuttat, and the regional representative of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), Davron Mukhamadiev.

“It was decided that if the Russian government sends the second relief aid convoy, Russian Red Cross (RCC) and International Red Cross officials together will accompany the cargo on Russian territory,” Klenitskaya said. “All joint activities in Russia will be held together with ICRC and RCC.”

Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Monday that Russia was hoping to send a new aid convoy to Ukraine’s southeast this week.

Speaking at the national youth forum Seliger-2014 on Wednesday, Lavrov said he was certain that the second relief aid convoy for Ukraine would not be the last one.

“We have reasons to hope that we shall achieve constructive technical and logistics solutions to send a second humanitarian convoy to Ukraine’s southeast in the near future,” he said. “I am sure it will not be the last one.
