Paratroopers land on test site in China in framework of Peace-Mission 2014 exercises

MOSCOW, August 22. /ITAR-TASS/. A first paratroopers' drill has been held on a test range in China on Friday in the framework of Russo-Chinese exercises Peace Mission-2014, Press service Chief of Russia's Eastern Military District Colonel Alexander Gordeyev told ITAR-TASS.
The paratroopers landed from a helicopter on the Zhurihe test range to practice orientation on an unknown territory and verify their routes in the area of liquidation of a presumed enemy, the spokesman said.
The Russian side employed around 100 units of ammunition and military hardware, four Su-25 jets and eight combat helicopters Mi-8. The pilots flew all over the test range as they practiced pinpoint strikes on the presumed enemy, Colonel Gordeyev said.
The main stage of the Peace Mission-2014 exercises was scheduled for August 24-29. Servicemen from Russia, China, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan will take part.
Russia will be represented at the exercises by a motorized armored battalion accompanied by T-72 tanks, self-propelled mortar launchers Akatsia and multiple launch artillery systems Grad.
