Russia to do everything to maintain peace in Transdniestria — official
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin says there are now more and more attempts to isolate Transdniestria
TIRASPOL, August 22. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia, as a guarantor of the Transdniestria settlement, will do everything to maintain peace in the region, Deputy Prime Minister, Special Representative of the Russian President for Transdniestria Dmitry Rogozin said on Friday.
Rogozin, together with President of the self-proclaimed republic Yevgeny Shevchuk, participated in the events commemorating the liberation of Moldova from the Nazis which Transdniestria marks on August 24.
"The attempts to isolate Transdniestria are becoming increasingly tougher," Rogozin said, adding that many residents are unable to travel outside the republic and that Ukraine was digging a ditch along the border.
He reiterated that Russia would make all efforts towards keeping peace in the region. "Hopefully, we don't have to warn anyone that it's better not to breach peace," he said.
Rogozin noted the significance of Trandsniestria's preserving the memory of the Great Patriotic War, urging the republic's residents to prevent the revival of Nazism in their land.
