The situation cannot be characterized in any other terms than a dramatic one and prone for a further aggravation, FM spokesman says

MOSCOW, August 20. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia is ready to receive a mission of the Council of Europe that will get familiarized with the situation in the camps for Ukrainian refugees on the Russian territory.

"We think the Council of Europe's Secretary General, Thorbjorn Jagland, took a timely decision on August 19 as he sent out appeals to the foreign ministers of the Council's member-states and called their attention to the humanitarian situation, which is worsening in the wake of the dragged-out conflict in the Eastern regions of Ukraine," a spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry said Wednesday.

"In Jagland's opinion, the situation cannot be characterized in any other terms than a dramatic one and prone for a further aggravation," he said.

"We share such assessments of the situation in Southeast Ukraine and express the readiness to receive a mission of the Council of Europe that will get familiarized with what's happening on the camps for Ukrainian refugees on the Russian territory," the spokesman said.

“We consider Thornbjorn Jagland’s position as a confirmation of the importance of immediate steps to avert a humanitarian disaster in the region and as support for the efforts undertaken by Moscow to deliver relief supplies to Donetsk and Luhansk,” he said.
