Russia seriously concerned over truce violated in Gaza
“Palestinian groupings and Israeli army resumed the exchange of strikes in the Gaza Strip on August 19,” FM says
MOSCOW, August 20. /ITAR-TASS/. The Russian Foreign Ministry said Wednesday the country is seriously concerned over a new spiral of violence around the Gaza Strip during the truce.
“Palestinian groupings and Israeli army resumed the exchange of strikes in the Gaza Strip on August 19,” the Foreign Ministry said, adding that “According to media reports, around 50 missiles were launched from the enclave on Israel, including 15 missiles intercepted by Israeli missile defense system Iron Dome.
“Meanwhile, Israel has attacked several tens of targets in the Gaza Strip killing at least three Palestinians and wounding 40.”
“Moscow is seriously concerned over a new spiral of violence around the Gaza Strip taking place in violation of the humanitarian ceasefire agreements which had been previously reached at indirect Palestinian-Israeli contacts in the city of Cairo [Egypt’s capital],” the Russian Foreign Ministry noted, adding that “We urged all parties to the conflict to resume justified practice of observing such humanitarian pauses in forcible confrontation and to return immediately to debate on parameters of a long-term ceasefire on the basis of a peace initiative Egypt offered.
