YEKATERINBURG, August 14./ITAR-TASS/. Rospotrebnadzor consumer rights watchdog in Russia’s Sverdlovsk region in the Urals is checking American Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey whiskey on quality concerns, spokeswoman Nataliya Lukiantseva said on Thursday.

She said chemical substances causing concern had been found in it, as well as numerous violations had been revealed in the sales of American whiskey.

Lukiantseva said American Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey, Jim Beam and bourbon whiskey were sold with the marking that did not conform to the rules. In particular, it had no information in Russian on beverage composition, the whereabouts of the producer and the age of the beverage.

On August 4, Rospotrebnadzor said it was also checking American bourbon whiskey, in particular Kentucky Gentleman produced by Barton 1792 Distillery, on quality concerns.

It said Kentucky Gentleman bourbon had not gone through state registration as to its compliance with regulations of the Customs Union of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan, although its label was bearing the EAC mark for products turnover in the market of the Customs Union member-states.

Rospotrebnadzor also said phthalates had been found in that bourbon whiskey “which may cause functional and later organic changes in the central and peripheral nervous system, endocrine system, as well as oncologic diseases and male and female infertility”.
