Dialogue despite differences: Russian MPs maintain contact with the West
Western countries had responded inappropriately to “the civil war in Ukraine”, he says
YALTA, August 14. /ITAR-TASS/. Russian lawmakers will continue dialogue with Western counterparts despite disagreements over Ukraine, parliamentary lower house Speaker Sergei Naryshkin said at a meeting of State Duma deputies with President Vladimir Putin in the Crimean coastal resort of Yalta on Thursday.
Western countries had responded inappropriately to “the civil war in Ukraine”, Naryshkin said, adding that they ignored obvious legal facts, making entire international organisations ineffective.
“Unilateral and judicial measures are being used,” he said of sanctions imposed by the United States and the European Union on Russia over events in Ukraine.
“Despite these difficulties, we should certainly maintain dialogue with our Western partners, parliamentarians of Western countries,” Naryshkin added. “We will continue dialogue with our counterparts and continue to tell the truth based on facts and specific legal arguments.
