MOSCOW, August 07. /ITAR-TASS/. Fugitive U.S. whistleblower Edward Snowden lives a modest life and learns Russian, lawyer Anatoly Kucherena representing his interests told reporters on Thursday.

Snowden makes for himself all decisions as to his trips in Russia, the lawyer added. “He decides for himself where to go, how to move. He is rather free to move, going to museums, shops and theaters. This is no secret,” Kucherena said, adding that his client was actively learning the Russian language.

“His way of life is rather modest as he must always think about safety,” he added.

The lawyer made no comment on Thursday as to whether his client had more breaking news up his sleeve.

“No comment,” Anatoly Kucherena said in reply to reporters’ queries.

Snowden has been given Russia’s residence permit for three years, Kucherena announced on Thursday. Despite U.S. extradition requests, he was granted one-year temporary asylum in Russia last year after spending more than a month in the transit zone of Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport.

American authorities say Snowden violated two clauses of a law on espionage by divulging secret data related to national defence and by deliberately transferring U.S. intelligence data to unauthorised individuals.

He is also charged with stealing U.S. government property. On home ground, he faces 10 years in prison on each charge.
