GUKOVO (Rostov region), August 05. /ITAR-TASS/. The Ukrainian servicemen, who on Monday came over to Russia, have been accommodated in a tent camp, and they have all they need, spokesman for the Rostov regional border guard department Vasily Malayev told reporters.

Overnight to Monday, 438 Ukrainian servicemen, including soldiers from the 72nd motorized brigade and border servicemen turned to Russian border guards with a request to let them into the Russian territory. The regional border guard department officers opened a humanitarian corridor for them at the decision of the Russian border guard service leadership.

According to Malayev, the servicemen are provided with food, drinking water and outfits. “The Ukrainian military today received field rations, and tomorrow they will get hot meals from the field kitchen,” he said.

Anton Shingera, a military medic from the 72nd motorized brigade told reporters at the tent camp that the Ukrainian military “have the opportunity to get a wash and have rest.” “We were given meals at once, for which we are very grateful. Frankly speaking, we did not expect such reception,” he said.

The Ukrainian military took part in hostilities in the areas of the city of Krasnopartizansk (Luhansk region). Shingera said their brigade had many wounded. “Nobody evacuates them, it is practically impossible to provide medical aid in such conditions because of the lack of medicaments and needed equipment,” he said.

“We came over to Russia to save the lives of our personnel,” the military medic added.

He also said he intended to return to Ukraine soon. Answering a question if he was afraid of prosecution for desertion in his home country, Shingera said: “I hope this will not happen. We would like to be met [in Ukraine] as we have been met here in Russia,” he said.

According to Ukrainian military, before they crossed the border they had been told that Russia was an “aggressor country” engaged in combat operations against them. Now, they have made sure it was not true, they said.

A military conflict erupted in eastern Ukraine in April after its Donetsk and Luhansk regions declared independence from the new government in Kiev.

Spokesman for the Rostov border guard department Malayev previously said that of 438 Ukrainian servicemen who overnight to Monday crossed the Russian border, more than 180 went back to Ukraine.
