US sanctions aimed at getting even with Russia — FM says
The West has deprived millions of people in southeast Ukraine of their right to life in pursuit of dragging Ukraine into Western sphere of influence
MOSCOW, July 30. /ITAR-TASS/. The Russian Foreign Ministry on Wednesday blasted the United States for its new set of sanctions against Russia announced on Tuesday.
“There is an impression that American sanctions pressure that moved onto the sectoral level pursues only one aim - to get even with us for our independent policy which is inconvenient for the United States,” the ministry said in a statement.
“We are also paying attention to clear elements of unscrupulous trade and economic competition in the US actions,” the statement said.
The West has deprived millions of people in southeast Ukraine of their right to life in pursuit of dragging Ukraine into Western sphere of influence, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told young diplomats in Dushanbe on Wednesday.
“The inability of some western partners to abide by agreements, including those who worked out the Geneva statement and other documents at various stages of the Ukraine crisis, is a source of our concern,” Lavrov said.
Real losses from Washington’s destructive and short-sighted policy against Moscow will be strongly felt by the United States, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
“We have repeatedly said that anti-Russian sanctions being adopted by the US are unsubstantiated and illegitimate,” the ministry’s statement also said.
“Such decisions by Washington will only further complicate Russian-American relations and create an unfavorable atmosphere in international affairs, where interaction between our countries often plays a decisive role,” it said.
The Russian foreign minister criticized his western partners for encouraging the Kiev authorities to violent actions against their own people instead of pushing them to implement the aforesaid agreements. This is the only way how Russia can regard Western remarks that Kiev has full right to use any means, including the armed forces, in southeast Ukraine.
“The rights and freedoms of millions of people in Ukraine’s southeast, including the right to life, are being sacrificed to a geopolitical concept of dragging Ukraine into the western sphere of influence,” the Russian foreign minister explained.
Lavrov said Russia would continue coming out against any confrontational policies provoking anti-constitutional coups and illegitimate change of power; interference in the internal affairs of sovereign countries, blackmail and threats in international relations.
“It is necessary to search for the solution of global and regional problems via equal dialogue on the solid basis of international law,” the Russian foreign minister said.
