MOSCOW, July 25. /ITAR-TASS/. Russian authorities have banned imports of all dairy products from Ukraine as of Monday, July 28, a senior official at the federal agricultural watchdog agency Rosselkhoznadzor said Friday.

“The corresponding documents will be signed later today,” said Alexei Alexeyenko, Rosselkhoznadzor’s Deputy Chief.

“The ban concerns, first and foremost, the imports of cheeses that might be hazardous since their production process includes palm oil of unknown quality and origin,” Alexeyenko said.

Rosselkhoznadzor officials believe the ban will not entail any consequences for Russia in the format of the World Trade Organization.

“A letter containing proposals on the soonest possible negotiations will be sent to the Ukrainian Veterinary Service today,” Alexeyenko said.

Russia's agricultural watchdog said earlier that July 28 would be the starting date for a ban on imports of vegetatables from Ukraine in private individuals’ luggage, passengers’ hand-carried luggage and mailings.

July 23, the watchdog said in a warning it would have to restrict the imports of all the foodstuffs from Ukraine if the government in Kiev failed to adopt the requirements of the Eurasian Customs Union (Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia) to the quality of imported European products before the signing of an agreement on Ukraine’s association with the EU

At present, there is a ban on imports of products from thirteen Ukrainian cheese factories, potatoes from the entire territory of the country because of the presence of golden nematode in it and pork due to the threat of a spread of African Swine Fever.

Also in effect at the moment are restrictions on the supplies of confectioneries from the Ukrainian factories owned by President Petro Poroshenko, as the Federal Service for Consumer Rights Protection has claims against their quality and consumer safety.
