Woman injured in Moscow subway crash dies in hospital

The death toll has reached 23 people. About a hundred of wounded including three in an extremely severe condition remain in hospitals

MOSCOW, July 23. /ITAR-TASS/. One more person injured in Moscow subway train crash has died in hospital on Wednesday.

The press service of Moscow’s Public Healthcare Department told ITAR-TASS, the physicians were doing their best in fighting for the life of this patient, still her injuries were too severe, and the medics failed to save her life.

The death toll as a result of the accident in Moscow subway July 15 has reached 23 people.

About a hundred of injured remain in Moscow’s hospitals, including three in an extremely grave condition.

 

Moscow subway chief fired after accident on blue line

July 22, Moscow’s Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced the dismissal of Ivan Besedin from the post of the Chief of Moscow subway. Besedin was succeeded by Dmitry Pegov, who headed the Rapid Transit Directorate, the subsidiary of Russian Railways JSC.

 

The crash investigation

Upon the accident, the Main Investigating Directorate of Moscow has filed a criminal case under article “Violation of safety rules and rules of exploitation of railway, air, sea and inland water transport and subway that caused by inadvertence the death of two or more people”.

Four suspects have been detained within the investigation of the case.

 

Compensation to the affected

The Moscow subway has paid about 11 million rubles ($316 thousand) to the people affected by the accident. As ITAR-TASS reported earlier, the sum of compensations to those affected by the accident in Moscow subway is preliminarily estimated at 110 million rubles ($3 million).
