Putin hopes Poroshenko will be able to offer plan conducive to peace in Ukraine

SERGIYEV POSAD, July 18. /ITAR-TASS/. Vladimir Putin said Friday he hoped that Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko will be able to produce a peace settlement plan, which will eventually bring about a full-fledged and durable peace in the country.

“We’re keeping contact with President Pyotr Alekseyevich Poroshenko and I hope he will be able to offer to the Ukrainian people, to everyone regardless of where they live, an option of developments, a method of ensuring the legitimate rights and interests that will bring about a full and durable peace in that land,” Putin said Friday at a meeting with the Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill I and representatives of Local (National) Orthodox Churches.

The hierarchs of the Churches gathered in Sergiyev Posad, some 60 km to the northeast of Moscow, to mark the 700th anniversary since the birth of St. Sergius of Radonezh, one of the most highly venerated Russian saints.
