MOSCOW, July 15. /ITAR-TASS/. An incident occurred in the Moscow metro during the morning rush hours, as three metro train cars filled with passengers derailed in the underground tunnel, a source in the Emergency Medicine Center told ITAR-TASS on Tuesday. The metro incident took place at a section between metro stations Slavyansky Bulvar and Park Pobedy running under a governmental highway.

“Reports were confirmed that four people died in the accident,” the head of the Moscow Department of Health Georgy Golukhov said. According to latest reports, three people died and 95 were taken to hospitals.

Metro cars did not capsize, a source in law enforcement agencies told ITAR-TASS. However, 80 people sought medical aid. The metro car is partially destroyed.

Emergency situation services are urgently evacuating around 300 passengers from metro stations. Emergency workers are leading people up to the street, including on stretchers. 

An emergency headquarters was set up at the Slavyansky Bulvar metro station. Police have cordoned off the neighboring area. Ambulance medics are giving first aid to passengers in the street.

The evacuation of passenger has not been yet completed. Metro train traffic is halted on the metro line where the incident had occurred, and its power supply is cut off.

Forty ambulance crews are working at the site of emergency near the blue-line Moscow metro station Park Pobedy (Victory Park), Moscow deputy mayor for social development Leonid Pechatnikov told ITAR-TASS. 

Spokesman for the Russian Emergencies Ministry Alexander Drobyshevsky said the ministry sent BK-117 three helicopters to the site to deliver those injured to the hospitals.

According to preliminary reports, a sudden braking of the metro train caused the incident.

Thirteen incidents have taken place in the Moscow metro earlier this year, and no one was injured in them. Emergency situations in the Moscow metro were mainly caused by slacks of cables of metallic constructions, breakdowns of rolling stock, flooding of metro tunnels, fires and failures of switch assemblies.
