MOSCOW, July 14. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia’s Investigative Committee will request satellite data to identify Ukrainian army units and commanders responsible for shelling a Russian border town, which resulted in one person dead and two wounded. Spokesperson for the Investigative Committee Vladimir Markin said this on Monday.

The incident occurred early on Sunday when several shells fired from the Ukrainian side exploded in the town of Donetsk in the southern Russian Rostov Region.

“Although the fact of shelling from the Ukrainian territory causes no doubts, all these data have been transferred to ballistics and explosives experts to answer the investigation’s questions about the type of shells, the trajectory of their flight, the place and the way of their launch,” Markin said.

“In addition, satellite data will be requested to help establish precisely, which unit of the Ukrainian army, the Right Sector or the National Guard was at the site of the launch of these shells. In turn, this will help determine the names of particular commanders who gave orders to shell the Russian territory, as a result of which a Russian citizen was killed,” the spokesman said.

“And these commanders must have no doubts that sooner or later they will be held responsible for this crime,” Markin said.

Russian investigators have already scheduled forensic expert studies to find the death causes of the man killed by the shell, and blast technical and ballistic expert studies will be conducted soon to find out the type of shells and their trajectory, the place and the way of their launch, Markin added.

Donetsk, a regional town with a population of 49,000 people, is located 171 km (106 miles) from Rostov-on-Don and borders on the Krasnodon district of the Ukrainian Luhansk region. The Donetsk automobile border cross point, which is located on the outskirts of Donetsk and is adjacent to the Izvarino cross point on the Ukrainian side, is one of the largest checkpoints in the Rostov Region.

Ukrainian shells have repeatedly fallen on the city’s territory since the start of combat operations between Ukraine’s military and self-defense militia in the southeast Ukrainian Donetsk and Luhansk regions but there were no victims until now.

Troops loyal to Kiev and local militias in the Ukrainian Donetsk and Luhansk regions are still involved in fierce clashes as the Ukrainian armed forces are conducting a military operation to regain control over the breakaway regions, which on May 11 proclaimed their independence at local referendums.

During the military operation, conducted since mid-April, Kiev has used armored vehicles, heavy artillery and attack aviation. According to Ukraine’s Health Ministry, over 470 civilians have been killed and 1,392 wounded in it. Many buildings have been destroyed and tens of thousands of people have had to flee Ukraine’s embattled Southeast.
