MOSCOW, July 14./ITAR-TASS/. About 130,000 Ukrainians have requested consultations on the conditions for long-term stay in Russia, head of Russia’s Federal Migration Service Konstantin Romodanovsky has said.

“These are not citizens who ask for job permit. These are people who decided on the long-term stay in Russia. Their conditions for return back are doubtful,” Romodanovsky said at a meeting with Director of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees’ Bureau for Europe Vincent Cochetel on Monday.

Over 30,000 Ukrainian citizens have asked for refugee status or temporary asylum, Romodanovsky said.

“As many as 26,500 Ukrainians have applied for temporary refuge and about 4,000 people for refugee status,” he said.

The growing number of applications causes special concern. About 490 Ukrainians, most residents of the south-eastern regions of Donetsk and Luhansk, are staying in the border area and may also apply for refugee status, Romodanovsky said.

Cochetel said his office was ready to provide assistance.

He said the UNHCR was prepared to provide any assistance to local authorities.

In addition, Cochetel said the UNHCR did not want to double the FMS’ functions. He proposed Romodanovsky to coordinate the efforts in this aspect.

He also said the UNHCR was ready to help refugees prepare for the winter.

Cochetel thanked Romodanovsky for Russia’s assistance to Ukrainian refugees.
