American detectives suspect Seleznyov of hacking, stealing and selling personal information on credit cards of US consumers from October 2009 to February 2011

MOSCOW, July 11. /ITAR-TASS/. The Russian consul in the US Northern Californian city of San Francisco should visit Russian citizen Roman Seleznev detained by US security services and being kept at prison on the US island of Guam, State Duma lower house lawmaker from the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR) Valery Seleznyov, Roman’s father, told ITAR-TASS on Friday.

Consular employees had not been permitted to visit Roman being kept on Guam yet, he said.

“According to preliminary reports, they will come to Guam on July 13,” Valery Seleznyov said, noting that the Russian consul in San Francisco would visit Roman.

Russian citizen Roman Valeryevich Seleznyov was detained at the international airport in the city of Male, the capital of the Republic of Maldives, an island nation in the Indian Ocean-Arabian Sea area, on July 5, Russian Foreign Ministry stated earlier. On the same day he was “brought by agents of an American security service aboard an airplane of a private airline by force and was taken to the Guam Island.” This fact was already confirmed in the US Department of Homeland Security.

American detectives suspect Seleznyov of hacking, stealing and selling personal information on credit cards of US consumers from October 2009 to February 2011. In March 2011 Washington state court has brought accusations against him in absentia on 29 counts for which Seleznyov can face a cumulative sentence of several dozens of years in jail and a big fine of millions of US dollars. Meanwhile, US Nevada law enforcement agencies opened a criminal case against this Russian citizen on suspicion of being a member of a criminal group engaged in extortions.

Russian Foreign Ministry takes this affair as “one more unfriendly step taken by Washington.” The Russian ministry noted that the country expects explanations from the United States. Russian authorities are also taking all possible efforts to find details of Seleznyov’s detention and to attain his soonest return to the homeland.
