Naval base for Mistral and other Pacific Fleet ships in Vladivostok to be ready in 2017
The facilities will form the basis of the naval base for several ship formations and in the future they will receive new-type helicopter carries and warships
MOSCOW, July 04. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia’s Federal Special Construction Agency (Spetsstroi) by the end of 2017 will fully prepare for use the naval base of the Russian Pacific Fleet in Vladivostok that in the future will receive the Mistral helicopter carriers and other new ships, Spetsstroi’s spokeswoman Svetlana Chumikova told ITAR-TASS.
“The quay on which reconstruction and construction works are underway has stretched for more than 2.5 kilometres. The initial stage of the work should be completed by October 2015, and by the end of 2017 the naval base, meeting most modern requirements will be fully ready for operation,” Chumikova said.
She added that the construction of this and other facilities in the Far East had been inspected by Spetsstroi Director Aleksandr Volosov. The agency head, in particular, visited the Maly Uliss Bay where a new military town with modern infrastructure will soon appear.
“The facilities that are being built here by Russia's Spetsstroi’s main department for the Southern Federal District will form the basis of the naval base for several ship formations and in the future they will receive new-type helicopter carries and warships that will be adopted for service in the Russian Pacific Fleet,” the spokeswoman said.
