NATO defensive measures excessive — Russia’s ambassador
“We think there are no actual grounds to do muscle-flexing near our borders,” Russian ambassador to NATO Alexander Grushko said
MOSCOW, July 01. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia believes NATO’s defensive measures for its members are excessive, Russia’s ambassador to NATO Alexander Grushko said Tuesday.
“We believe that measures being taken by NATO to ensure additional protection for member countries are excessive. They are inadequate and do not reflect the real security situation,” Grushko said. “No one threatens NATO countries.”
Russia will judge about NATO’s further plans not by what it says but by what it does, he added.
“Our assessments about NATO’s activities near the Russian borders are well-known,” he noted. “We think there are no actual grounds to do muscle-flexing near our borders.”
NATO may make a contribution to the crisis settlement in Ukraine if it sends a relevant signal to Kiev, he said.
