MOSCOW, June 25. /ITAR-TASS/. The Federation Council has revoked the resolution of March 1, 2014, on using the Russian Armed Forces in Ukraine. The decision was taken one vote short from unanimously, 153 out of 154 senators voted for canceling the resolution. 

The decision takes effect from the day it is approved.

Earlier, Federation Council specific committees on constitutional legislation, international affairs, defense and security unanimously recommended to Russian senators to cancel a resolution granting a right to President Vladimir Putin to use troops in Ukraine, a source participating in a meeting which is being held behind closed doors told ITAR-TASS.

On Tuesday, President Vladimir Putin proposed to the Federation Council to cancel the March 1 resolution over possible use of Russian military forces in Ukraine. This decision was taken over the start of three-party talks on settlement of the situation in east Ukraine, presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told ITAR-TASS. The presidential letter was sent to the Federation Council shortly before Putin’s departure for Austria’s capital, Vienna, on Tuesday.

The Federation Council resolution of March 1, 2014 granted a right to the president “to use Russian military forces in Ukraine to improve public and political situation in that country."
