Tu-95 bomber fires new cruise missiles at Kamchatka range in training

MOSCOW, June 20./ITAR-TASS/. A Tu-95MS strategic bomber in exercises on Friday fired six new high precision cruise missiles at targets in Kamchatka, the press service of the Russian Defense Ministry told ITAR-TASS.

The ground targets in the Kura firing range in Kamchatka were hit successfully.

"One strategic missile carrier Tu-95MS fired six new air-launched high precision cruise missiles with the use of a multipurpose launcher at ground targets in the air firing range of Kura. The crew carried out its tasks well the training targets in the range were hit," a defense ministry source said.

The cruise missiles were launched during air tactical exercises of air squadrons from the Engels air force base, the Saratov region in Russia's southeastern European part. Eight strategic bombers Tu-95MS missile carriers from the Engels base participated in the exercises. The aircraft took off for the missions from the Ukrainka air field, the source added.

The crew of the Tu-95 was in the air for about seven hours, he said.

A Tu-95MS is capable to hit an enemy's important stationary objects with cruise missiles in daytime and at night, under any weather conditions, at any point of the globe, the source noted.
