MOSCOW, June 20. /ITAR-TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin held an extraordinary meeting with permanent members of Russian Security Council late on Thursday evening, presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said.

“The situation in Ukraine’s southeast was high on agenda of the meeting,” he said.

Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, Chief of Russian Presidential Staff Sergey Ivanov, Secretary of the country’s Security Council Nikolai Patrushev and his deputy Rashid Nurgaliyev, Speakers of both houses of parliament Valentina Matviyenko and Sergei Naryshkin, Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu, Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Federal Security Service Director Alexander Bortnikov, Foreign Intelligence Service Director Mikhail Fradkov and permanent member of the Security Council Boris Gryzlov participated in the meeting.

Putin also had a telephone conversation with Ukrainian counterpart Petro Poroshenko on Thursday evening. “Along with talks on current issues of Russian-Ukrainian relations the Russian president focused on importance of ceasefire in conflict zones in southeast Ukraine to attain viable settlement of the conflict,” Peskov said.

In addition, the Russian president had a telephone conversation with French and German leaders Francois Hollande and Angela Merkel earlier on Thursday. The leaders of the countries discussed possible aftermath of Kiev-foiled talks to settle the debt problem for Russian gas supplies for economy and energy security of Europe, the Kremlin press service said.

The Russian leader voiced serious concern over Kiev’s current military operation in southeast Ukraine. “It was stated with hope that Kiev leadership’s pledges about the intention to stop violence and launch all-Ukraine dialogue will be fulfilled immediately,” the Kremlin press service noted.
