MOSCOW, June 18. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia’s Union of Journalists demands that the crimes against reporters in Ukraine be investigated through to the logical end, the Union’s secretary, Nadezhda Azhgikhina, told a news conference on Wednesday.

“We will continue to call on the international journalistic community not to turn a blind eye on this theme and to demand the probe being driven to the logical end,” she said adding that “if an international investigation is required, we will insist on it.”

The Russian Union of Journalists is set to raise the question of Russian reporters’ security both at the Organisation for Cooperation and Security in Europe (OSCE) and at the European Federation of Journalists as well as at the second ‘Supplementary Human Dimension Meeting on promotion of freedom of expression: rights, responsibilities and OSCE commitments' that will take place on 3-4 July 2014, in Vienna on Switzerland’s initiative.

“We must undertake more active steps to stop violence to journalists by arousing all the public organisations and creating an international movement for reporters’ protection,” Azhgikhina said expressing the confidence that new tools protecting journalists would be elaborated.

“The primary task now is to bring to a logical end the investigations of committed crimes so that the criminals would not escape punishment and that's why political will is of much importance here,” she said.
