ROSTOV-ON-DON, June 17. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia's Border Service has denied media reports alleging the death of a Russian border guard at the Novoshakhtinsk checkpoint on the border with Ukraine.

“This information is incorrect. Nothing happened there; there was no fighting near the Russian border (near the Dolzhansky checkpoint on the Ukrainian side of the border)," spokesperson for the Border Service's department for the Rostov region Vasily Malayev told ITAR-TASS.

Earlier on Tuesday, a number of media outlets said a Russian border guard had been killed in mortar fire coming from Ukraine.
