MOSCOW, June 16. /ITAR-TASS/. Moscow has urged Kiev to ensure the security of the Russian Embassy and of the consulates general in Odessa, Kharkiv and Lviv in order to guarantee their normal operation.

“The situation around Russian missions in Ukraine has deteriorated dramatically lately. On June 14, 2014, the building and property of the Embassy in Kiev were seriously damaged as a result of unlawful actions which got no proper reaction from Ukrainian law enforcement agencies,” the Foreign Ministry said on Monday. “Provocative actions are taking place outside the Russian consulate generals in Odessa and Kharkov on June 16,” it added.

Russia “is urging Ukraine to strictly comply with the provisions of the 1961 Vienna Convention and other international documents in protecting diplomatic missions”.

Moscow demanded that Kiev “take all necessary measures to ensure the security of the embassy and the consulate-generals in Odessa, Kharkov and Lvov in order to ensure their normal operation”.

“Responsibility for this lies entirely with the Ukrainian authorities,” the Foreign Ministry said on Monday, June 16.

On Saturday, June 14 several dozen people stormed the Russian embassy in the Ukrainian capital, blocking the entry to the embassy, pelting smoke barrels and firecrackers at the premises, and tearing down the Russian flag. Police did not stop the aggressively minded crowd.

Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has earlier said there is nothing to talk about with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Deshchytsia.

The behavior of parliament-appointed Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov at the Russian Embassy that came under a violent attack on Saturday demonstrates his connivance with extremism and riots, Sergei Lavrov stated on Monday.

“An outrage was staged before the eyes of police, moreover, in the presence of the interior minister, who instead of ordering police to prevent vandalism commented on the situation by saying something like ‘yes, this is wrong, of course, but people are outraged’,” Lavrov said.

“I believe this is not an interior minister we are seeing, but a person conniving with riots and manifestations of open extremism, and besides with Nazi symbols,” Lavrov added.

“We’ll take our measures. But the world community must demand Ukraine ensure security of diplomatic missions because such incidents are not rule out,” he said.
