Russia’s Kazan to host 5th intl high-level security meeting — Security Council

MOSCOW, June 16. /ITAR-TASS/. The city of Kazan, the capital of Russia's Republic of Tatarstan in the Volga Federal District, will play host to the Fifth International Meeting of High Representatives for Security Issues on June 18-21, in line with an instruction by Russian President Vladimir Putin, the press service of the Russian Security Council said on Monday.

“The agenda of the forthcoming meeting includes two main items - counteraction to the global drug threat and struggle against the use of illegal migration by transnational criminal groups,” the press service said.

“A joint discussion is expected to address possible risks posed by scientific achievements in synthetic biology,” it said.

Starting from 2010, the meetings were held in the southern Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi, in Yekaterinburg in the Urals, St. Petersburg in northwestern Russia and Vladivostok in the Far East.

“Pressing global issues - fight against terrorism, extremism, organized crime and money laundering - were discussed during these meetings, as well as cooperation in the sphere of ensuring information security and reinforcing transport and energy security, among many others,” the statement said.
