“Georgia’s draft resolution ignores the humanitarian situation in the region and the interests of neighboring countries,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says

MOSCOW, June 11. /ITAR-TASS/. Georgia’s draft resolution, submitted to the UN General Assembly, will hamper the exchange of views on the refugee issue at the upcoming round of Geneva discussions on security and stability in Transcaucasia scheduled for June 18, the Russian Foreign Ministry says.

“Georgia’s draft resolution ignores the humanitarian situation in the region and the interests of neighboring countries,” the ministry says.

Earlier, Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Georgia’s approach towards the refugee problem in Abkhazia proves Tbilisi’s unpreparedness to hold a constructive dialogue on the long-term settlement.

“On June 5, Georgia submitted a draft resolution on ‘The State of Migrants and Refugees from Abkhazia, Georgia and Tskhinval District (South Ossetia, Georgia)’ to the UN General Assembly,” the ministry said.

“Tbilisi’s attempts to pull the refugee issue into the UN General Assembly hamper discussions within the adequate format, the Geneva discussions on security and stability in Transcaucasia,” it added.
