GORKI, June 09. /ITAR-TASS/. Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has ordered to provide humanitarian aid to Ukrainian refugees coming to Russia.

“I have already issued a corresponding order to ministers and governors of bordering regions at a government session, and this work has already started. This morning I discussed it with the president,” Medvedev said on Monday at a meeting with his deputy ministers.

The premier asked government members responsible for this work to keep everything under control and to render necessary assistance in solving humanitarian issues. He also stressed that the government would help in financial matters if necessary.

 

Refugee inflow keeps growing

About 20,000 women and children from south-eastern Ukraine have crossed into Russia’s southern Rostov Region bordering Ukraine in the last three days. Over just 24 hours (on June 8-9) the Rostov Region has provided shelter for 7,335 residents of Ukraine, the regional government said on Monday.

Over 3,000 Ukrainian citizens have been accommodated in camps and temporary accommodation centers, prepared by the Rostov region's authorities for refugees. Federal Migration Service authorities in the Rostov region and the regional employment centre are helping people to find jobs and to settle problems with documents, delivering their services directly at camp locations.

The regional government has also organized transit to the Voronezh and Moscow regions.

The regional charity fund’s four offices are collecting relief aid. A bank account for cash donations is open. Over just several days the fund’s relief aid accounts have received an equivalent of 100,000 US dollars in private donations from across Russia.

Deputy Prime Minister for Social Affairs Olga Golodets said at the meeting that the Russian government would provide summer accommodation both for women with small children from Ukraine and for the victims of massive floods in Russia’s southern Siberia, caused by excessive precipitation when monthly rainfall was registered over just four days.

“We are working both with Ukrainian refugees and citizens who have faced a difficult situation in the Altai Territory and the republics of Khakassia and Altai,” she said, adding that the Republic of Altai and the Altai Territory had requested for about 500 additional places to accommodate children.

Golodets said the government would support women with children while their houses damaged from the flooding were being put to rights.
