Moscow alarmed by situation in Libya
MOSCOW, June 05. /ITAR-TASS/. Moscow is strongly concerned about the situation in Libya, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said on Thursday.
“The situation in Libya remains extremely tense,” the diplomat said. “Information comes about large-scale activities in Benghazi and inter-tribal clashes in the south of Libya,” he said, adding that people were being killed and wounded in these clashes.
“The activity of government authorities has been practically paralyzed, and polarization of political forces continues, which is fraught with a next spiral of tension,” the diplomat said.
“Moscow is strongly concerned about this situation. We want that the Libyan political forces settle existing differences through a peaceful dialogue,” he said. “We will support and welcome any initiatives towards the achievement of peace,” Lukashevich added.
