MOSCOW, June 02. /ITAR-TASS/.  Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom plans to launch three new nuclear power plant (NPP) units in Russia and one in India in 2014, Rosatom CEO Sergey Kiriyenko said Monday.

“We are reaching the figure of three units (in Russia),” Kiriyenko said at a meeting with Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.

He said the talk is about the units at NPPs in the Rostov, Sverdlovsk and Voronezh regions.

Kiriyenko added that the Kudankulam NPP’s unit in southern India is to be launched by the yearend.

Earlier, Russia and India have signed a general framework agreement to build the third and fourth units of the Kudankulam nuclear power plant.

India has approved a large-scale programme for developing nuclear power engineering. Till 2017 nineteen nuclear power plants’ units with the capacity of 17,400 MWt are planned to be built. Eight units will be constructed with the participation of other countries.

In 2010 Russia and India signed a roadmap for building up to 14-16 Russian-design power units in India.
