MOSCOW, May 30. /ITAR-TASS/. The head Project 885 Yasen-class nuclear-powered submarine 'Severodvinsk', which is in pilot operation, will be delivered to the Russian Navy on June 17, a source in the country’s defense and industrial sector told ITAR-TASS on Friday.

“The St. Andrew naval flag is planned to be hoisted on 'Severodvinsk' on June 17. The flag-lifting ceremony will be held at the Sevmash shipyard,” the source said.

Nuclear submarine Severodvinsk was laid down at Sevmash shipyard in 1993 and was set afloat in 2010. The submarine was brought in pilot operation without hoisting the St. Andrew naval flag on December 30, 2013.

It was reported earlier that with the start of navigation this year Severodvinsk is to set out in the White Sea to finalize trials of separate units and systems.

Second Yasen-class submarine Kazan was laid down in modernised project 885M in 2009. Third submarine Novosibirsk was laid on July 26, 2013.

The laying of a fourth nuclear submarine of this class is planned on July 19, 2014. New equipment will be mounted on upgraded Yasen-class submarines and they will have a stronger signature.

St. Petersburg maritime machine-building design bureau Malakhit has designed multipurpose Yasen-class nuclear submarines.

Yasen missile weaponry includes supersonic cruise missiles Oniks and Kaliber and universal deep-water homing torpedoes. The submarine has a surface water displacement of 8.6 thousand tonnes, an underwater displacement of 13.8 thousand tonnes, a length of 119 metres, a width of 13.5 metres. She has the maximum submersion depth of 600 meters and an underwater speed of around 30 knots (around 55.5 kph).
