MOSCOW, May 29. /ITAR-TASS/. Russian police has detained ten people suspected of plotting a terrorist attack in the Moscow region on Victory Day.

The detained ethnic Dagestanis lived in the Moscow region and had police records. “Ahead of the May holidays, the Interior Ministry’s Chief Counter-Extremism Department received reports that these people had purchased components that could be used for manufacturing a self-made explosive device, as well as other data suggesting they were possibly preparing a terrorist attack in that region,” the ministry said.

The group was detained on May 7. Specialists with bomb sniffer dogs found a self-made explosive device at the place where the detained men had lived. Police also seized religious literature, including books from the federal list of extremist materials, more than 20 mobile phones, a radio station, two notebooks, and wrist watch supposedly intended to be used as a timer.

Besides, a map of a town outside Moscow and a list of events scheduled there on May 9 were found. “All the detained persons were arrested and are now giving confessions. The mastermind and the perpetrators of the planned terrorist attack have been identified,” the ministry said.
