BRICS states do not discuss possible union enlargement — Lavrov

MOSCOW, May 28. /ITAR-TASS/. Enlargement of the five-member assembly of BRICS emerging nations has not been discussed yet, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said after meeting Argentinian counterpart Hector Timerman in the Russian capital on Wednesday.

“As for a formal enlargement of the BRICS grouping, such decisions are taken in consensus within the organisation,” the Russian minister said, answering a journalist’s question on whether Argentina may join the assembly of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

“No ideas for expansion were discussed yet, but all in good time,” he added.

BRICS states were co-operating actively with Argentina in various international formats, primarily the Group of Twenty (G20) advanced nations. Work to reform the International Monetary Fund reflected the identical interests of Argentina and Russia, he said.
