Russia alarmed over Georgia’s intention to deploy NATO or US missile defense
MOSCOW, May 22. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia is alarmed over Georgia’s intention to deploy elements of NATO or US missile defense system in the country, spokesman of the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexander Lukashevich said on Thursday in comments on Georgian Defense Minister Irakly Alasania’s statement urging to deploy a US or NATO missile defense system in the country.
“We are very alarmed over Georgian Defense Minister Alasania’s statement in Washington with an appeal to deploy US or NATO missile defense system in Georgia,” the diplomat said. “The defense minister should have taken care about security of his country, but at least referring to problems of security in neighboring countries,” Lukashevich said. “This is an inevitable formula,” he added.
