Civic Platform does not rule out participation in election of regional heads
Irina Prokhorova has denied allegations that she and her brother, Mikhail Prokhorov, plan to quit the Civic Platform party
MOSCOW, May 21. /ITAR-TASS/. The Civic Platform party does not rule out participation in the election of heads of regional administrations, leader of the Civic Platform party Irina Prokhorova told ITAR-TASS on Wednesday. "The party has a few ideas about the election of regional heads," she said.
Both Irina Prokhorova and her brother Mikhail Prokhorov, who founded the Civic Platform party, might take part in the election to the State Duma in 2016. "We do not rule out such a possibility, we have been thinking about it and discussing it," Prokhorova said. " It is difficult to make concrete plans beforehand under the conditions of changing political situation," Prokhorova added.
Prokhorova also said she will not take part in the election to the Moscow Duma.
The decision was made after a long discussion held within the party as to whether she should run for the Moscow Duma, she said.
"In the long run, we arrived at the conclusion that it was not expedient for the party leader to run for the Moscow Duma at the present moment," Prokhorova said.
Prokhorova and brother not to quit party
Prokhorova has denied media reports alleging that she and her brother, Mikhail Prokhorov, are planning to quit the party.
“I regard such reports as a newspaper canard released before the election to the Moscow Duma," she said. "Journalists tend to invent news and believe it themselves," Prokhorova added. She first learned about it from the Izvestia daily, she said.
Commenting on the recent reports that Mikhail Prokhorov was going to leave the post of the leader of the Federal Political Committee, Irina Prokhorova said that Mikhail Prokhorov "wanted to concentrate on serious economic problems of the party rather than routine tasks. The idea was to turn over day-to-day routine work to someone else, which was meant as a purely technical reshuffle. Mikhail Prokhorov remains the think tank of the party and its founder," she said.
Nevertheless, she did not rule out that Rifat Shaikhutdinov might become head of the Federal Political Committee. "The decision has not been made yet. We do not know how regions will react to the planned appointment. Anyway, it is a purely technical matter," Prokhorova said. Shaikhutdinov is an expert in political technologies, and the party has asked him to attend to the preparation for the election to the Moscow Duma. The problem of Shaikhutdinov's appointment will be discussed at a closed meeting of the party on Wednesday evening, she said.
