MOSCOW, April 21. /ITAR-TASS/. President Vladimir Putin will hold a meeting of the national Security Council on Tuesday, April 22, to discuss Russia’s policy in the Arctic.

“The participants in the meeting will discuss practical aspects and map out a set of measures to improve the implementation of the documents approved by the president earlier, specifically ‘The Basic Principles of State Policy of the Russian Federation in the Arctic up to 2020 and Beyond’ and “The Strategy for the Development of the Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation and National Security up to 2020”,” the presidential press service said on Monday, April 21.

Putin will also meet with members of the 7th youth polar expedition “To the North Pole on Skis” that set out on April 10 from the drifting polar station Barneo of the Russian Geographical Society. The team covered 180 kilometers during an eight-day trip, reaching the destination on April 18 and raising the Russian flag on the North Pole.

Chosen through a multi-step selection process, seven adolescents were included in the expedition team. All of them are studying in correctional schools and two of them are hearing-impaired. On the trip they were accompanied by travelers Matvei Shparo and Boris Smolin, and the Russian president’s ombudsman for children’s rights Pavel Astakhov.
