The State Duma will debate a draft statement on PACE’s anti-Russian resolution on Friday

MOSCOW, April 18. /ITAR-TASS/. A Just Russia parliamentary faction will support Russian parliament State Duma lower house’s statement on an anti-Russian resolution adopted by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), but believes that it is a too soft response to sanctions which European lawmakers imposed on Russia, first deputy leader of A Just Russia parliamentary faction Mikhail Yemelyanov told reporters before a plenary meeting of the State Duma on Friday.

“A Just Russia will support this statement, but from our point of view, it is too slack and too soft,” the politician said, noting that the main problem was not in sanctions against Russia. “Ukrainian crisis and PACE’s response to it has exposed a deep crisis in relations between Russian and European lawmakers,” he believes. “The channel of talks with European lawmakers was good in the 90s when Russia was seeking to join the European Union and to integrate in the European Union,” he said. “After this goal was attained Russia has formed an independent centre of foreign policy in the world. We should not wait for the European Union to admit us in other European institutions and tolerate humiliation which Russia suffers in PACE,” he stated.

“PACE is outdated hopelessly not only as a channel of communications with Russia, but also as an international organization,” Yemelyanov believes.

In his view, Russian parliament should insist on creating new types of dialogue with European lawmakers. He gave as an example “a Russian-European forum where lawmakers from Russia, EU states would be represented on an equal basis and where no one would teach anyone.”

The State Duma will debate a draft statement on PACE’s anti-Russian resolution on Friday, in which the lower house intends to put forward a condition to the Assembly for continued talks with Russia in the way of full cancellation of sanctions against the Russian delegation.
