MOSCOW, April 18. /ITAR-TASS/. In eastern Amur region, Maritime and Baikal territories, suffering from wildfires, almost 3,500 people are involved in extinguishing the fires, Alexander Drobyshevsky, representing the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations EMERCOM, told ITAR-TASS on Friday.

“We use there over 1,600 specialised vehicles and 26 aircrafts,” he said.

On Thursday, the aviation made seven flights and dropped over 600 tonnes of water.

“Six more flights were made to monitor the situation and for the air recognisance of places where fires are possible,” the spokesperson said. “The fires do not threaten villages or cities.”

Drobyshevsky says 40 rescuers with knapsack fire extinguishers have arrived in the Amur region.

The situation with wildfires in the regions is very complicated, but “we manage to control it,” he added.
