Crimea’s new Constitution expands opportunities of civil society — Crimean PM
Crimea’s fundamental law is based on democratic principles of protecting rights and freedoms and takes into account the multi-ethnic and multi-confessional nature of the Crimean population
SIMFEROPOL, April 11. /ITAR-TASS/. The newly-adopted Crimean Constitution offers broad opportunities to develop the peninsula, Crimean Prime Minister Sergey Aksyonov said on Friday.
Crimea’s fundamental law is based on democratic principles of protecting rights and freedoms and takes into account the multi-ethnic and multi-confessional nature of the Crimean population.
“The Constitution, which expands opportunities for the public to participate in the government, will contribute to developing civil society in Crimea,” the CrimeaInform news agency quoted Aksyonov as saying.
The Crimean prime minister said that the new Constitution gives broad opportunities to the Crimean bodies of state power to adopt administrative and legal acts designed to step up the peninsula’s social and economic progress and develop education, public health and culture. “That will make it possible to promptly react to basic life necessities of the Crimean people,” Aksyonov said, denying allegations of some politicians that the Crimean Constitution had been drafted and adopted in private.
“Leading Crimean and Russian experts on constitutional construction, representatives of the peninsula’s national and cultural societies, Russian State Duma deputies and members of the Federation Council, as well as representatives of Russian regions and territories, took an active part in drafting and discussing the Constitution’s basic provisions,” the Crimean prime minister concluded.
