MOSCOW, April 03. /ITAR-TASS/. Moscow is awaiting a reaction from the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry to a yet another act of sacrilege, in which the plaques commemorating outstanding natives of the city of Sumy were smashed, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a note Thursday.

The plaques commemorated Suren Kaftarian, the first-ever resident of Sumy who received the scientific degree of a Doctor of Sciences, and Fyodor Dudnik, an Air Force bomber pilot who fought in the Battle of the Salient of Kursk in 1943 and who took part in the combat operations in and around Kiev at a later date.

During nighttime, the malefactors smashed with a sledge-hammer the plaques, installed on a house where the two men had lived, and then urinated on the fragments.

“It would be nice to hear a reaction of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry to that highly deplorable fact,” a spokesman for the Russian ministry said.
