SIMFEROPOL, April 02. /ITAR-TASS/. Hemp and poppy fields in Crimea will be destroyed, head of the Russian Federal Drug Control Service (FSKN) Viktor Ivanov told ITAR-TASS on Wednesday after a visiting session of the State Antidrug Committee.
“The meeting focused on issues related to the organisation of the work aimed at the destruction of the resource base of drug production - hemp and poppy grow here. It has been decided to destroy this resource base,” Ivanov said.
The meeting participants also made a decision to create in the Crimea the Antidrug Commission that will be headed by the Crimean premier, Sergei Aksyonov.
A drug control committee has been created in Russia’s newly-incorporated republic of Crimea in accordance with the document signed by the republic’s current prime minister Sergey Aksyonov.
The committee's mission will be to elaborate and conduct drug control policies on Crimea’s territory. It will control the illegal flow of drugs, analyze and evaluate the general situation in the region and take preventive measures. The committee includes the cabinet's ministers concerned, chiefs of federal penitentiary and security services and customs chiefs.
“Regional drug control centers still need to be created in order to cope with crime”, the head of the Federal Drug Control Service, Viktor Ivanov, said. He suggested creating the main drug control center in the city of Simferopol, which will control five other district offices, located in the Crimea’s largest cities.
