MOSCOW, April 02. /ITAR-TASS/. The European part of Russia will face water deficit this year, the head of Roshydromet Federal Service for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring said at a session chaired by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.

“An abnormally warm winter, late snow cover on the European territory and meager precipitation have resulted in a certain deficit of water in the north-western, central and southern parts of European Russia,” Alexander Frolov said at the session reviewing preparations for this year’s season of possible floods and woodland fires.

According to specialists, only 45 to 65% of the norm is expected in water reservoirs of the upper streams of the Volga River and in the Moscow region.

Meanwhile, spring floods have been fixed on many rivers of the country extremely early. The Severnaya Dvina and the Sukhona rivers in Russia’s north and the Pechora in the Urals are the hardest hit. Specialists look into the situation there to minimize the aftermath of snow-melt floods.
