Russian Black Sea Fleet chief joins talks at Sevastopol Naval headquarters

The rally of several hundred demonstrators in front of the local navy headquarters building began at 08:00 a.m.

SEVASTOPOL, March 19. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia’s Black Sea Fleet Commander Alexander Vitko has arrived for negotiations to the Ukrainian Naval Force headquarters in the city of Sevastopol, where on Wednesday demonstrators forced their way inside the building of the military unit, an Itar-Tass correspondent reported.

Earlier in the day, participants in a rally in front of the building of the Ukrainian Naval Force in Sevastopol, where Russia leases a naval base from Ukraine, broke through the perimeter fence into the territory of the military unit to have hoisted the Russian and St. Andrew’s flags, an ITAR-TASS correspondent reported from the site.

The rally of several hundred demonstrators in front of the local navy headquarters building began at 08:00 a.m. (4:00 a.m. GMT) on Wednesday morning. Russia’s national anthem was played after the flags were replaced.

At present, the demonstrators are holding talks with Ukrainian naval officials with Russia’s Black Sea Fleet Commander Alexander Vitko joining the negotiations. No violence has been used against Ukrainian military. Russian military are not involved in the incident.
