Russia will be offered to deploy up to 15 more warplanes in Belarus, in connection with NATO activity near the Belarusian border

MINSK, March 12. /ITAR-TASS/. Belarus will offer Russia to deploy up to 15 more warplanes in Belarusian territory due to NATO activity near its border, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said on Wednesday.

He was speaking at a session of the Security Council which met to review preliminary results of the check of the Belarusian army's combat readiness.

Belarus will react adequately to NATO's beefing up its forces near Belarusian borders. "We had reacted calmly until a large exercise began in the south in Poland which requested reinforcements and larger scope of the exercise," the president noted.

More than ten planes have been flown from Italy to the area of the exercise since Tuesday. "That is, the aggravation of the situation near our borders is on hand. If 15 planes were moved from Italy, I believe it's necessary to contact chief of Russia's General Staff and offer them to send reinforcements they are obliged to provide," he said.

For now, let it be 12 to 15 planes. They have to be moved to Belarus, have their patrol routes determined, as well as reserve routes. "Let them work, patrol," Lukashenko said.

"We've seen escalation of the conflict recently, it's a fact. This escalation is happening not in Syria, Libya or Iraq. It's near our borders. It is affecting our interests," Lukashenko said.
